About Amplifying Women.

Amplifying Women is a national event designed to showcase and critically explore the achievements of women in computing, mobile, gaming and related industries. It will be the first event of its kind, bringing women together from across new media sectors, and is designed to provide a broad platform for discussing women’s engagement in and contribution to critical areas of social engagement and participation: work, education, leisure, governance and citizenship.

The day will be designed to bring together women from across the country, support networking, enterprise and organisation. The event will amplify the current state of play – bringing the experience and achievements of women into the public eye by celebrating current activity, highlighting barriers and challenges, with a view to finding practical solutions.

Amplifying Women is a grass roots event which welcomes and encourages the partnership and support from all organisations committed to promoting the interests of women within the computing, mobile and gaming industries.

The event is run by a committee of women volunteers who are well established in their own careers. We are committed to supporting diversity and equality within technological sectors which have a poor track record in attracting, keeping and promoting women. We will be keeping the event free for women to attend, and where possible, supporting the attendance of low income women, for example by providing travel bursaries, refreshments and lunch.

Men will be welcome to attend the event, and to volunteer and to contribute.

Children will also be welcome to attend the conference and the sessions under the supervision of their carers.

The day will be focused on celebrating current achievements, broadcasting opportunities, and promoting networks and actions.

The event aims to:

  • Model inclusion and promote the value of diversity
  • Promote the achievements and interests in women in computing, mobile, gaming and related industries
  • Facilitate the development of new networks, interest groups, and actions that further the inclusion and visibility of women in the sectors
  • Support women and girls considering entering the sector
